Since its closing during the 1967 war, the re-opening of the 161 kilometer long Suez Canal has been a costant condition in the search of a settlement of the Middle-East conflict. Now the Egyptians have removed their offensive forces from the West Bank, and the Israelis have withdrawn to the East behind the U.N. supervized zone.
